Paleo Expansion: A New Beginning

In the A New Beginning expansion, thousands of years have passed since your ancestors struggled to survive in a harsh environment and your tribe thrives in a settlement. However, not everything is as peaceful as it seems: new dangers threaten to destroy everything you have achieved.

Master new tools, build huts, and develop agriculture and animal taming to thrive at the dawn of civilization and write a new chapter in human history.


Paleo: A New Beginning is the first big box expansion for the cooperative game Paleo, winner of the prestigious Kennerspiel des Jahres 2021.

Designed by Peter Rustemeyer, it allows games for 2 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, lasting about 50 minutes.

This expansion expands on the base game experience with 171 new cards, tiles, and modules.

Once again we travel to Prehistory, but this time at a more advanced point in the development of humanity, at the dawn of the Neolithic.

In Paleo each player controls a prehistoric tribe that includes warriors, collectors, explorers or inventors.

The tribes must cooperate to explore the surroundings, get food or make discoveries.

All this to ensure their survival and prosper.

The game takes place in several rounds and each of them has two phases, day and night.

Throughout the day, players will collect resources, craft tools, and face various challenges, such as wild animals or hostile tribes.

At night, the tribe distributes food and prepares for a new dawn.

In most games, only two card modules of the 10 available are used, which allow the level of difficulty to be modulated and ensure great replayability.

Each tribe controls its own deck of cards, which will be discovered little by little with the common goal of adding five victory points, represented by a five-piece cave painting.

However, if players accumulate 5 skull tokens they automatically lose.

In Paleo: A New Beginning, the gaming experience expands and multiplies.

In addition to having 6 new modules, combinable with the 10 from the base game, the new cards also add new abilities.

Now players will also be able to capture animals and grow grain for food, they will be able to hunt with bows and arrows and they will have secret tokens, which they can use when certain cards indicate it.

This expansion also adds new dream and idea cards, as well as never-before-seen tools and a new resource, obsidian.

Unlike the base game, in A New Beginning during the night phase unused food spoils, making food storage much more difficult.

For this, the players will have the farm, which will allow them to capture animals and receive grain.

This module can be expanded with a fence, a millstone, scythes or a cabin, which will grant important benefits to the players.

Paleo: A New Beginning expands on the possibilities of the base game and offers a new challenge to those who have already enjoyed Paleo.

Suitable for all types of players, this cooperative experience engages all players equally, as each one has their own deck of cards.

Although players can agree on a strategy, each must make their own decisions.
