Terraforming Mars: Utopia Planitia

Continue your adventure in the northern lava plains or the southern mountain ranges! Each map represents a new region of Mars, with different placement bonuses, ocean areas, and new landmarks and rewards.

UTOPIA PLANITIA
Utopia is a lava plain located northwest of Elysium and belongs to the northern lowlands. It is also the largest recognized impact crater in the entire solar system! The mineral-rich lava can be turned into fertile soil, indicated by the abundant plant bonuses far from the equator. To the south, it borders the Great Escarpment along the edge of the highlands. The thin crust next to the North Pole could be a good location for geothermal power reactors. Get 2 cards for colonizing the prestigious Viking 2 or Beagle 2 landing sites! The Utopia map lacks volcanoes and the Noctis region, so tiles indicated on Noctis City cards and those in volcanic areas (e.g. Lava Rivers) lose their placement restrictions and can, in this case, be placed in any non-reserved area.

TERRA CIMMERIA
Terra Cimmeria is a densely cratered mountainous region in the lower hemisphere of Mars, halfway to the south pole, east of the Hellas Basin. This is the best place on the planet to find steel and titanium! The entire region shows signs of coastlines and erosion by liquid water that once flowed abundantly across the southern highlands. However, today, suitable areas for forming oceans are found along the edges of this region. Placing a tile where the Curiosity rover explored the area around Gale Crater allows you to place 1 colony for €5M (ignore this if you are not playing Colonies). The Cimmeria map does not have the Noctis region, so you can place Noctis City wherever you want. However, it does have 4 volcanic areas where you can place tiles like the Lava Rivers: Albor Tholus, Tyrrhenus Mons, Hadriacus Mons, and Apollinaris Mons.
