Stolen Paintings - The Art of Stealing

In Stolen Paintings, players take turns playing the role of a thief trying to steal paintings from a museum exhibit and auction them off. The other players are detectives trying to uncover the stolen paintings before they are auctioned off. The thief scores points for each painting he smuggles past the detectives, and the detectives score points for paintings they correctly identify as stolen. Whoever collects the most points, both as a thief and as a detective, wins.

In addition to the basic game, the rule book contains rules and suggestions for numerous variants.

One player takes over in each round the role of thief and steals 1-3 paintings from the museum exhibition. The other players will act as detectives trying to find the stolen paintings.

In the beginning all the painting cards are shuffled into a face down deck, then the thief creates the museum exhibit by drawing the first 24 painting cards and turning them face up put in a display. Once all the cards are in place, the thief flips the hourglass timer and all detectives have that time to look at the paintings.

When the timer runs out, the detectives must close their eyes. The thief then steals 1, 2, or 3 paintings from the exhibit. The thief then collects the remaining paintings from the exhibition and throws them out of the game. The detectives keep their eyes closed while the thief pulls more paintings from the stack until he has a total of 8 including the stolen paintings. The thief then places all 8 paintings face up in a row and assigns a number tile to each painting. The thief writes down which paintings were stolen on his point pad.

The detectives now open their eyes and try to find out which of the 8 paintings from the original museum exhibit were stolen. Each detective secretly writes his guess(es) on his score pad once all detectives have finished, their guesses are revealed. The thief then reveals which paintings were stolen, and the detectives score points for correctly identifying the stolen paintings. The thief scores points for the stolen paintings that were not identified by the detectives.

The player to the left of the thief becomes the thief in the next round. The game continues in this way, with each player taking one turn as a thief. After the final round, the player with the most points wins.

Stolen Paintings contains 200 oversized cards (2.75 x 4") featuring artworks by great masters from different eras.

These include famous artists such as Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Degas and Gauguin, but also lesser-known artists such as August Macke, da Forli, Wilibrand Mahler and Utagawa Hiroshige.We have impressionists, expressionists, cubists, landscapes, still lifes and also many portraits taken!

These cards are very versatile allowing use in schools, trivia games, chronology games and even in the adaptation of some modern classics.The cards themselves only contain the beautiful artwork on the full card and an inconspicuous 4-digit identification number. This number is then cross-referenced in an accompanying catalog with the titles and dates of the works and information on the artist."
