Covalence A Molecule Building Game

Covalence is a chemistry-themed cooperative card game where players work together to precisely construct a series of secret organic molecules. One player has knowledge of a set of secret molecules, and everyone else must deduce what these molecules are based on the clues they are given. Players must build their molecules by collaborating before the clues run out.

One player takes on the role of "knower" while all other players become "builders." The connoisseur has access to a number of secret molecules and will give the builders clues about them when they try to identify their structure. After setting up the clue cards in front of her, the connoisseur will randomly designate 3 secret molecule cards for each builder. Each builder then takes a set of element tiles containing a variety of elements and binding patterns.

The connoisseur must study the secret molecules designated to each builder and then give each clue card that relates to his or her specific molecule. Each builder must interpret these clues as he arranges and rearranges his individual element tiles, attempting to deduce the structure of his secret molecule.

Builders can request new clues from the connoisseur as the game progresses with their limited supply of clue tokens. When the builders think that the molecular structures they have built match their secret molecules, they send their structure to the knower with a divination token.

If the builders present their molecular structures and are wrong, they have used up precious resources and will be that much closer to losing the game. If builders submit their molecular structures and they are correct, they receive more clue tokens as a reward and can start building their next secret molecule. If each builder is able to correctly build all of their secret molecules, everyone will have won the game.

Covalence is ideal for the science classroom or game night with family and friends. It's easy to learn, but exciting to master and encourages cooperation and deduction skills. All of the concepts covered in Covalence are concepts that can be found in a basic high school chemistry course, and it does so in a way that is fun and intuitive for everyone.
