The Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) arrive on a planet known simply as “The Library” which houses millions of books across thousands of levels. Every text known to man is housed here. Seemingly deserted, an archaeological expedition arrives, headed by Professor River Song (Alex Kingston).

River reveals a cryptic message sent from the library indicating there were no survivors but “4022 saved” and reveals to the TARDIS crew her party is investigating the reason why the library has been sealed for the last hundred years.

The Vashta Nerada are microscopic carnivorous lifeforms which have infiltrated the planet. They use the shadows to stalk and latch onto their prey.
