Alien Hive Textured Roller

The textured roller is an ideal accessory for applying reliefs to a wide variety of putties, pastes, or clays used in model making and sculpture. It is made of PMMA (clear acrylic) with non-stick properties. Safe, non-toxic material.

Product Dimensions:

  • Length: 14.5 cm (5.5 inches)
  • Thickness: 2.5 cm (1 inch)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

  1. Knead the putty or clay you are going to use well until it is ready to work with, following the manufacturer's specific recommendations.
  2. Place it on the desired surface and smooth it carefully before applying any texture. For this step, it is helpful to use a Smooth roller.
  3. Depending on the type of material, it may be necessary to lightly wet the roller or apply modeling petroleum jelly to prevent sticking.
  4. Roll the tool smoothly and continuously, applying the same pressure across the entire surface to achieve a uniform texture.
  5. Once the material has hardened, remove any excess or give the final shape to the contour.

MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY:

This roller can be used with many putties and clays available on the market.

Clays like Super Sculpey are an excellent choice, as they do not harden until fired, allowing you to work calmly and easily correct mistakes. If desired, you can apply it directly onto MDF wood bases and bake the whole thing. The recommended time is 15 minutes at 150°C (300°F). The MDF wood may develop a slight odor, but will not be damaged.

Among epoxy putties, green putty is characterized by being especially sticky. To prevent it from sticking to the roller, it is advisable to dampen it or use petroleum jelly for modeling. Talcum powder can also be an effective solution.

Milliput putty, on the other hand, behaves stably, although too much water can make it difficult to handle. If it feels too sticky, it is best to continue kneading to improve its consistency.

*** Always remember to clean the roller after use, especially if you have worked with epoxy putties.

MAINTENANCE:

To remove engraving residue, use water and Scratch brushes, which allow for precise cleaning without damaging the design.

SAFETY:

This tool is not recommended for children without direct adult supervision.
