In the city of Waterdeep there is an inn, the Gaping Portal, named after the wide-open hole in its common room. This crumbling shaft leads to a labyrinthine vault that only the most daring adventurers dare to enter. Known as Undermountain, this subterranean realm is the dungeon of the mad mage Halaster Blackcloak. The mad magician has long resided in the forgotten depths and over the years has enriched his realm with monsters, traps and riddles. But for what purpose? This question is the reason for much speculation and concern.
