An elegant tile placement game for 1 to 4 players, created by the versatile Reiner Knizia.

In AXIO, players must place 1 token on the game board when their turn comes. They then score victory points for all the identically colored tiles in continuous rows from the tile they placed, scoring the points for each color on their score board. At the end of the game, the players will compare the points of their color with the lowest accumulated score. The winner will be the player with the most points in that color. Due to this scoring system, you always have to try to improve the score of the color with fewer points at any time, assuming, of course, that your rivals are not going to hinder you and take advantage of your moves.

In your turn, place one of your 5 tokens on the board, on any empty space. Then score the placed tile. The more colors you manage to link, the more points you get for that color. Since each tile has two sides, you will usually always score two different colors. The board will fill up with chips and time is running out: try to balance your scores in all the colors, because it's no use scoring a lot in some: only the color with the fewest points counts at the end of the game.

If the players manage to completely close a space by placing their piece, they will also have the opportunity to place a pyramid to occupy that space.
