Ebola, HIV or the Marburg virus, our world is now threatened by an infinite number of diversified viruses. With the rapid spread of these pathogens, epidemics quickly develop and ultimately lead to a world-threatening PANDEMIC, a pandemic. But players have a chance to save the world! In the cooperative game PANDEMIC, players act as highly skilled members of a special disease control unit. They travel the world, working together to contain the threat of infection while laying the foundations for research into the antidote. As a doctor, researcher or logistician, players use their respective forces to defeat the plagues before they can bring the world to its knees.

Time is short because of outbreaks and epidemics accelerate the spread of the plague. Each player has a special role within the team, and their unique skills, when used well thought-out, significantly improve the team's chances. The goal of the game is to save humanity by discovering the antidotes to four deadly plagues that are threatening to tear the earth apart. If the team of players is unable to contain the plagues long enough to discover the needed antidotes, the earth cannot withstand their spread and the players lose to the game.
