“Command can count on Oyama to remain cool and collected when the going gets tough, and by the time the smoke has cleared, he will have done his duty. And that's the best you can say for a dirty Japanese.”Captain Song Lau. Excerpt from Takeshi Oyama's evaluation report, on the occasion of his promotion as Domaru Butai non-commissioned officer.
Domaru Takeshi “Neko” Oyama is an old-school samurai warrior, upright and honorable, a paradigm of the perfect Bushi. His face, thin and serious, always shows a resolute and sober expression. He has a dry and taciturn manner and his conduct in life is always guided by the creeds of the Bushido code. He wears his scars proudly, as a mark of manhood, but like a good Bushi, he never boasts about them. Because of this, at first, everyone believed that Oyama was a very lucky individual. His nickname "Neko" (? "cat" in Japanese) is due to his ability to always land on his feet and the number of lives he appears to have. But a person cannot be as lucky as he was. Oyama is a veteran warrior who has survived numerous battles simply by being the best. Coming from a high-class Japanese family, of Bushi origin, his life was always focused on his training as a warrior. He has studied in the dojos of the most prestigious masters, where he stood out as a duelist of superior talent. He entered the army driven by a strong personal sense of honor, and not by a desire for social prestige. His first assignment was a Butai (regiment) assigned to Svalarheima. There his legend would begin. He was part of the garrison of an outpost that suffered a heavy pan-oceanic attack. The enemy troops outnumbered the defenders four to one. The defense became untenable. By the time reinforcements arrived, only two people were left alive at that post: the garrison medical officer and Oyama, badly wounded but defending the post. Once the convalescence period was over, he was transferred to Paradiso with the rank of non-commissioned officer. On a long-distance patrol mission, his unit ran into a Shasvastii advance guard. After a savage hand-to-hand combat, only Oyama, wounded and exhausted, was able to return and report. Yu Jing reinforced that area and a Shasvastii infiltration behind the human lines was prevented. Oyama, already nicknamed "Neko", would also serve in the Ariadne Trade Conflicts, where he would live up to his nickname, surviving the impossible. Takeshi “Neko” Oyama knows that the path of the samurai lies in death. He knows the dangers that lie ahead and fearlessly awaits his inevitable decline, drawing closer to his end with each step. He is not afraid of dying, for him it is perfectly acceptable that the path of the warrior requires a toll of life.
