Artichokes No thanks!

Artichokes No thanks! is a deck building and management game designed by Emma Larkins and illustrated by Bonnie Pang. It is recommended from 10 years old and can be enjoyed by 2 to 4 players, who will aim to be the first to prune all their artichoke cards and harvest another 10 fresh and tasty vegetables.

Inside this fun box that simulates a large artichoke, you will find 104 cards: 4 reference cards for players, a deck with 40 artichoke cards and another deck with 60 cards of other vegetables.

Winner of the 2021 Best Starter Game Award at the American Tabletop Awards, Artichokes No thanks! is an ideal title for learning how deck building dynamics works. As the game progresses, each player will build their hand of cards from a limited pool that is visible and within everyone's reach. Each vegetable will allow certain actions to be carried out and this is where each player's strategy will shine. As soon as you have looked at the manual, you can start playing.

A garden full of healthy vegetables awaits you!

Each player receives 10 artichoke cards, which will make up his starting hand. The rest of the vegetable cards are shuffled and placed in a pile in the center of the table; then five cards are revealed, making up the community garden.

Finally, take five cards from your personal pool (at this starting point, everything will be artichokes!) And the last player to cook and eat vegetables starts the game. Easy right?

In successive turns, players will harvest one of the vegetables in the community garden and can use its effects. Each of the 10 different vegetables (beetroot, broccoli, corn, carrot, eggplant, leek, onion, bell pepper, peas and potato) has a different power. Thus, turn by turn, the players will form a diverse and balanced deck that will allow them to exchange, discard or compost their starting hand, full of artichokes.

Luck and strategy are mixed in equal parts in each game. The precious peppers may not come out until the end ... And at a certain point decisions will have to be made: Should I keep that card in the row, even if it is not the one that interests me the most, or do I risk being drawn by my opponent?

If a player, at the end of his turn, at the moment of forming a new hand of cards, does not obtain any artichokes, he is proclaimed the winner. The short duration of the games and the few rules make Artichokes No thanks! an ideal game for the youngest at home or for all those who want to get started in deck building mechanics.
