Ion A Composite Building Game

Ion is a fast-paced and simple card hand building game, in which players select from a series of available ion and noble gas cards with the goal of forming charge-neutral compounds, or stable noble gas assemblies.

Each player is initially dealt eight cards. They choose one card and pass the rest to the player on their left, while receiving the same number of cards from the player on their right (this is commonly known as "card draft" or "pick up and pass").

Selected cards must be (1) attached to another ion or (2) placed alone. Players only score points for neutrally balanced cards. Therefore, a positively charged sodium (Na+) bond and a negatively charged chloride (Cl-) bond, forming a neutral NaCl compound, would get points.

Points are scored at the end of each round and the player can earn additional points for building specific compounds listed on the objective cards available during that round. After three rounds the player with the most points wins!

The game comes with multiple expansions, including a transition metals expansion, a polyatomic ion expansion, and a radioactive cards expansion. All of these variants can be added to complicate the game while maintaining the simplicity of its rules.

Ion is great for the science classroom or game night with family and friends. It's easy to learn, but exciting to master and encourages management and deduction skills. All of the concepts covered in Ion are concepts that can be found in a basic high school chemistry course, and it does so in a way that is fun and intuitive for everyone.
