What are Squigs?

Squigs, also known as "Squigs", are creatures from the Warhammer 40,000® universe, specifically associated with the Orks, a warlike alien race. They come in various forms and serve different functions within Ork society. They are typically found in Ork settlements, known as "Drops", where they grow and reproduce in cesspools, subsisting on Ork refuse.

There are many types, each with its own characteristics and uses. Some are bred to be eaten, while others have specialized roles, such as Musical Squigs, Furry Squigs, or Parasite-Hunting Squigs. They also have medicinal uses, with some varieties bred specifically for their properties useful to Painboys and Ork medics.

Gretchin and Snotlings, other subspecies within Ork society, are often tasked with caring for Squigs, under the supervision of Runtherds, who oversee the management of Ork livestock. These animals are a vital part of Ork life, serving as a source of food, materials, and even inspiration for Ork inventions and practices.

Can the Squig Herd from Gloomspite Gitz be used in Warhammer 40k®?

Yes, they can be used perfectly.

in the futuristic world of Warhammer 40k®.

Although Warhammer 40,000® and Age of Sigmar® (the setting for Gloomspite Gitz) share some similarities in terms of story, they are distinct universes with their own rules and factions. In this case, there is no problem using them since they are the same type of animals and scale of miniatures. Therefore, they can be used as accompaniment or decoration for other units. If bombs are added, they can be an attack unit, and of course, they can be used as mounts for various special characters and fast units.
