And the veterans have survived battles other armed forces only hope never to be drawn into. In larger conflicts, the veterans of the Watch can be counted on to form the core of the Night's Watch army, pushing the lines and bravely withstanding the most fearsome of attacks. As heavy infantry they are always in danger of being pinned down by their enemies, but careful planning and perfect formations allow a good general to turn the veterans into a sharp spearhead or into a rampart like the Wall itself.
