Stephens (Spanish)

In 1755, following the great earthquake that devastated Lisbon and much of Portugal's southern coast, it was imperative to rebuild the entire nation. The demand for window glass increased so much that William Stephens, a British businessman, expanded his business to Portugal, investing in the glass industry.

In 1769, Stephens purchased the glass factory located in Marinha Grande, a small village surrounded by a vast pine forest planted in sand centuries before. Thanks to the outstanding support of the Marquis of Pombal and the protection of King Joseph I, the factory grew to the level of its largest European competitors and became an important factor in the development of the entire region and the nation of Portugal.

In Stephens, you will take on the role of an expert glassmaker at Stephens's Factory, striving to become the most prestigious in town—surpassed only by William Stephens himself, of course. By planning wisely, you will develop your craft, invest in new local businesses, and contribute to job creation.
