Calimala

Calimala is a medium/high complexity eurogame that uses worker placement mechanics with great interactivity between them.

The guild of Calimala of weavers and cloth merchants was one of the most important guilds in Florence, controlling the civil power in the Republic of Florence during the Late Middle Ages. The trade in woolen textiles was the driving force behind the city's economy and the members of the Calimala were the elite of Florence. In its long history, the Arte di Calimala oversaw the execution of artistic and architectural works. Many of the Florentine guilds carried out this activity, but the Calimala differed from the rest of the guilds by the number and prestige of the projects and buildings carried out, including the construction and decoration of some of the largest churches in the city. In this game, players act as members of the guild, produce and trade cloth, and gain prestige by exporting their wares abroad, contributing to the construction of buildings, and sponsoring works of art throughout the city. Players assign their workers to various streets within the city, where they carry out actions as other employees arrive. Over time they will be promoted as city councilors, thereby triggering a scoring phase. Calimala won the distinguished “Hippodice” game authors award in 2016.
