I found it at a flea market. I hadn't seen anything like it, a strange metal artifact with a peculiar drawing in the center: a nice-looking guy smiling at me, painted in fluorescent colors. This mysterious object instantly caught my attention. The seller was an old man, he saw me take the artifact and we started chatting. He told me that he had found it when he was working as a janitor in a science lab in the 1950s. "So you stole it from the lab?" I asked. "Let's just say I forgot to return it," he replied with a slight smile. I asked him what it was for. "This artifact can bring the past to life and even make wishes come true," he replied with a small smile. A laugh escaped me. Obviously, I didn't believe her fairy tales, but for some reason I was intrigued by the item, so I decided to buy it.
That same night I met up with my friends, a whole group of adventurers, for our game night weekly. As usual, we couldn't decide what to play. And while my friend Nina was perusing the game shelves, she stumbled upon the mysterious artifact. "Hey Tom, what kind of game is this?" he asked me sarcastically. He picked up the device and started turning it over, trying to open it. Just as I was going to tell you the story of the old man, we heard a click and the drawing in the center began to light up. We all freaked out Nina almost dropped the artifact from her hands, but she caught it just in time. The glow grew brighter, and before we knew it, a brilliant light had engulfed the entire room.
When the light faded, we found ourselves in a totally different place, yet oddly familiar. And then it hit me: the device had transported us to one of my board games! At first, we all panicked. "What happen?" "Where we are?" "What's that? A dinosaur?". We calmed down when we realized that if the device had brought us here, it might as well take us back.
Suddenly, a voice spoke to us from the artifact. Hello, brave adventurers! I am Flexo, and I am here to answer any questions you may have. Are you ready to change the rules? Next, the nice-looking guy stood before us, explaining that what we were dealing with was a rule-checking machine. “It allows you to experience gaming like you never imagined. You are the masters of your own adventure, as you can alter the rules of the game as you play and change them to your advantage. To do this, you will only have to get energy cubes and spend them and to control your destiny you will have to collect the valuable chips that feed the machine. You can even move from one game universe to another if you play your cards right." Our mission was simple: to get back home, we had to win the game by collecting chips. Well, it was easy to say. That night, though, I was the first to pull it off.
Since that remarkable evening, our game nights have changed forever. Now we call ourselves the Rulebenders and we return to this adventure again and again. Do you want to join us?
