To many residents of Malifaux, alcohol is an all too brief escape from their daily lives. For the monks of the Fermented River, it is an ancient ritual, used to relax mind and body in order to attune the monks to the swirling flows of the universe. To the uninitiated, there appears to be little difference between the unsteady stumbling of the novices and the chaotic weaving of the masters. This is a mistake few people make twice. Novices typically need to drink significant quantities of Song, the potent spirit the temple brews, to loosen their muscles and minds. The more advanced monks are able to achieve the same using meditation and less alcohol.

Once in this state, the monks surrender themselves to the weaving strands of fate, using only their instincts and reactions to fight. This makes them extremely unpredictable and very hard to hit regardless of their skill level, but a true master of the Fermented River is able to use this to launch his own attacks at an unprepared opponent.
