According to some sources, each sunrise and sunset mark the stage for the perpetual confrontation between Horus and Seth. In this endless battle, Seth, as god of darkness and chaos, prevails over Horus, thus granting the arrival of night. However, in an eternal revenge, the victory of Horus, the celestial god, begins a new day, continuing a cycle that has lasted since the beginning of time.

In the game, players, embodying the role of Horus and Seth, face each other in three locations: The world of the living (the Deshret), the underworld (the Duat) and on the Solar Boat or Mandjet that symbolizes the journey of the Sun in the sky.

Sunrise Sunset is a two-player game with only 18 tarot-sized cards, making it a very portable game that can be played anywhere, one game after another. Its mechanics design gives it great depth and tension in each game, in which guessing your opponent's intentions is key to winning.

In turn, each player will place a card on one of the three locations until they have placed two on both sides of each of the three locations, a total of 12 cards. After this, the combat is resolved at each location. Each combat won makes you dominant in the corresponding location, if you win a combat again where you dominate, you will do one point of damage. The game ends when a player manages to do 3 points of damage.

The cards have different powers and abilities, some are even played face down, thus hiding your strategy. A thorough knowledge of each card will help you calculate your chances in each combat and thus make better decisions in the game.
