Hidden and forgotten, the most incredible finds lie next to rubble and sand. Who will be the first archaeologist to uncover the secrets of antiquity? To recover them, you must acquire the necessary knowledge to lead an excavation campaign. With the help of your assistants, you will gather the equipment and services necessary for your expeditions. Once well equipped, you will travel around the Mediterranean to excavate the best sites in search of valuable finds that will bring you fame and prestige; if you can also organize exhibitions and attend conferences, the greater your reputation will be. But all this takes time and time is, of course, a limited resource. Whoever makes the best use of their time to plan excavations and exhibitions will earn more victory points and, of course, the game. Time is money!

A work by Peter Prinz, Thebes allows games for 2 people or groups of up to 4 players, from 8 years old, lasting about 60 minutes. With a set collection core mechanic, the players' goal will be to score the most victory points by excavating various archaeological sites around the world and finding valuable artifacts.

The main resource in Thebes is time, which is used to travel across the central board and carry out actions. At the beginning of the game, players will travel around Europe to acquire knowledge cards from different sites, equipment items, or advantages, which they will accumulate in their play area. They will then travel to any of the five sites on the map and depending on the knowledge they accumulate, they will have a greater chance of succeeding in their excavation. Each site has a bag with tokens inside. Players will take as many tokens as indicated by the chronodisc and these can contain finds of different values, items of scholarship, which will be useful to all players, or debris.

As the game progresses, players will also be able to offer exhibitions, as long as they have finds that match the requirements of the cards of this type. When all players have used up their time (represented by weeks, on the game board), the game ends and whoever has the most points is crowned the winner.
