From humble beginnings in a forest clearing or by the riverbank, your community begins to grow. Gather resources, attract new settlers, and transform your farm into a thriving village. But do not forget that ancestral spirits are watching as the land yields to your ambitions. You must maintain balance! Work the land, balance your growth, and compete to build the most prosperous community.

Developed by the legendary Simone Luciani (*Barrage*, *Grand Austria Hotel*, *Tzolk'in*) and Alessandro Cuneo, this strategy game tasks you with guiding the expansion of your family's farm beyond the known boundaries of the forest. As your settlement grows, more people will gather under your banner. You will cultivate the land, build new communities, and shape the future. However, you must tread carefully. Your expansion may unsettle the spirits that still dwell in the wild. The *yokai* are watching, and their mischief can hinder your plans if you fail to acknowledge their presence. Increase your influence, adapt your strategies, and attract the right people to your settlement to earn victory points.

In *Shugendo*, each player has their own personal deck of cards. Throughout the game, you will improve your deck by replacing weaker starting cards with more powerful settler cards. Each round consists of three phases: Reveal, Action, and Recruitment. During the Reveal phase, players draw and reveal cards until they decide to stop or until they "explore"—triggered by revealing 7 or more *yokai* icons. If this happens, they may only carry out either the Action phase or the Recruitment phase. In the Action phase, players advance their tracks based on the revealed cards and perform one of the main actions: Explore, Expand, or Develop. Finally, during the recruitment phase, players receive various bonuses based on the revealed cards and recruit cards from the unlocked eras.
