Pictures Orange Expansion

Put your imagination to the test to recreate different photographs using a variety of materials! PICTURES ORANGE is the first expansion for the game PICTURES, winner of the Best Family Game award in Germany in 2021. This expansion adds new photographs and two extra sets of components to increase the variety and fun!

In Pictures, players must recreate the images found on a grid using different components, which are rotated among the players each round. Each player receives a set consisting of colored wooden cubes, building blocks, stones and natural sticks, two different-sized cords or several pictographic cards, as well as a coordinate on the grid formed by the images. They then receive two tokens that determine which illustration they must recreate.

How to play?


Playing Pictures is very simple. Just spread out the 16 picture cards in the center of the table, label the rows and columns with letters (A, B, C, D) and numbers (1, 2, 3, 4), give each player one component to recreate the picture (wooden figures, sticks and stones, colored cubes, shoelaces, and icon cards), and write down each player's name on the score sheet. Then, each player takes a token from the cloth bag that identifies the image they must recreate, with the row and column coordinates (A3, D1, etc.), looks at it, and places it face down in front of them. Then it's time to get to work! Using their assigned components, players must try to recreate their assigned image as faithfully as possible. And then the giggles begin. "What do I have to recreate with what?"... After a while (by default, there's no official time limit; each group decides what they consider appropriate), the word "stop" is shouted, and each player writes down on their score sheet which image they think each of the other players has recreated. Then the laughter erupts. Each player turns over their coordinate card and explains how they recreated the image. Finally, it's checked who guessed which image. When an image is guessed correctly, the player who recreated it gets one point, and the player who guessed it gets another. The points are added up, and the round ends. Each player passes their components to the player on their left, and we start again. After five rounds, the game ends, the points are tallied, and the player with the most points wins.

What's new in Pictures Orange?

• 2 new sets to represent the images: 1) acrylic pieces to place in a frame and 2) clothespins and felt

• Option to expand the number of players to 6

The rules of the original game are the same, but the 2 sets included in this expansion are added to the 5 original sets for a total of 7. Before each game, the players choose which sets will be used based on the number of players.

The rules for using the 2 sets in this expansion are as follows:

Acrylic pieces in the frame

Place as many acrylic pieces as you deem necessary, always within the square frame (no piece can extend beyond the frame). No acrylic piece can overlap another piece, even partially (these same rules apply to the variants).

Clothespins and felt

You can use as many elements as you deem necessary, and in any way you see fit. Use a "Pictures" tile from the base game to create a positional reference. Variant: You can use any components you like, but the clothespins must be attached to other clothespins or a piece of felt.

Special Rules for 6 Players

Use 6 sets of components and play 6 rounds. After 3 rounds, remove the 16 cards from the grid and replace them with 16 new photographs. Return all the coordinate tokens to the bag. Alternatively, you can replace the recreated photographs by returning the coordinates to the bag each round, so that there will always be 16 unrecreated photographs.
