Níjar (Spanish)

Bathed in the brilliant white light of Andalusia stands Níjar, a town in Almería with a pottery tradition dating back to the Bronze Age—a craft that flourished during the Moorish era.

In the 1920s, before the tourism boom, the local economy revolved around ceramics and the crafting of esparto grass and *jarapas*—colorful woven textiles that remain a symbol of the region.

The currency in circulation was the peseta; its ten-centime coin was known as the "perra gorda" (fat dog), a nickname born from the worn appearance of the lion depicted on its obverse side. Perro Loko Games chose this unique coin for the game because of its historical significance.

Experience the charm of rural Andalusia: its whitewashed streets, the sounds of the pottery workshops, and the artisan hands that bring color to Níjar’s traditions.

The game unfolds over three rounds, featuring a decreasing number of artisans (7, 6, and 5). On your turn, choose one of the following options:

Place artisans: Add one more artisan than is currently present in a space to perform its action (the others return to their owners). Actions include drawing or playing cards, gathering clay, throwing (shaping) pots, firing, painting, cleaning, selling esparto, or becoming the starting player.
Discard for action: Discard an end-game scoring card to perform any action.
Sell at the market: Exchange up to two fired pieces for victory points.
Close shop: If you run out of artisans, pass to close your shop and earn bonus tokens in subsequent turns.

Transform clay into art and fire into tradition. Only those who master the potter's wheel and the use of color will be remembered as the true master potters of Níjar!
