Republic Struggle takes inspiration from the mechanics of Twilight Struggle, but far from being a simple copy, it represents an improved evolution with its own identity. Its design introduces new options and elements, carefully adapted to the historical event it recreates.

Republic Struggle is a thematic card-driven game for 2 players, set during the historical events that took place in Spain after King Alfonso XIII abdicated the throne and the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931.

With the creation of the new regime, the struggle for power between the different social, political, and ideological sectors increased, which led to continuous changes in political power, disturbances of public order, armed uprisings, and violent acts, carried out by the numerous ideological factions of the time; which culminated in 1936, in a failed military uprising.

The failure of this coup d'état gave rise to the Spanish Civil War.

The game represents all these events from this turbulent period in the history of Spain, which led to a bloody civil war, which determined the fate of the nation. Spain was not isolated from the rest of the world, and especially from old Europe, so it was a victim of the tensions of the so-called interwar period. During the development of a game, a player on the Republican side and another on the National side can recreate events from the period to increase their popularity in localities by carrying out political propaganda, recruiting troops or militias, generating revolts or assaults, establishing diplomatic relations or carrying out bloody bombings. They will do all this by playing their hand of cards alternately, either by increasing the events or by playing the action points or the icons to carry out any of the other actions available to the players.

But both factions will not only seek to control the country, but will also seek international support abroad through diplomatic relations. Inside, the most important locations are the locations of the barracks, air bases and naval bases. Controlling them will give the player faction important advantages in controlling the different fronts. But, although Republic Struggle may be inspired by the famous Twilight Struggle, it is not a copy of this game, but rather has its own independent spirit and enough differences and adaptations to the conflict it represents to make it an essential piece that cannot be missing from your game library. The role of the armies and the armed garrisons that can prevent political propaganda from spreading makes all this very interesting. In addition, the armies can move from one front to another and defeating enemy armies will help you take control of certain regions even if the politically full town supports your rival. And don't forget that bombing the rival is possible.

The game allows a high level of replayability thanks to the decks of cards and their distribution (with 3 sequential decks in time) and cards specific to each faction that achieve very diverse possible combinations. In short, a historical war game, but one that will not restrict players from making their own decisions. That is why Republic Struggle is a highly recommended game for a wide range of audiences and, especially, for lovers of historical strategy and the history of our country.
