THE GREAT WAR

The Great War, a game by Richard Borg, the well-known designer of light wargames such as Memoir 44 or Battlelore, portrays the epic battles of World War I, allowing players to replay the historic clashes that ensued. The battles included in the scenario booklet focus on the deployment of forces, the characteristics of the terrain and the trenches, and the gameplay of the combats. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from battle to battle. In some scenarios, a few infantry units can represent an entire wing of a larger battle, while in others, a unit represents just a few brave soldiers performing a daring maneuver.

The card system The Command Command controls movement, creates a “fog of war,” and offers players interesting opportunities, while battle dice resolve combat quickly and efficiently. Combat cards add an element of tension and challenge players to time their use at the right time. In general, the battlefield tactics that players will need to execute to win dovetail well with the strengths and limitations of the Great War's unit types, their weapons, the battlefield, and the story.

The centenary edition updates the miniatures, made of semi-rigid plastic at 1:100 scale and ready to play (no additional assembly required). This edition also introduces a number of visual improvements to the base game.
