Or maybe Leipzig, with 600,000 soldiers involved.

But no. The bloodiest day of all the Napoleonic wars was in 1812, in the desperate battle of Moscow, where 250,000 soldiers fought and 70,000 were victims.

Borodino. The name that has adorned many a wargame, but few that are fondly remembered. It is a difficult battle. Too many troops. Too much confined terrain. Too...some.

You command the mighty Grande Armée, made up of French, Poles, Italians and a bunch of german states. Or let the revered Marshal Kutuzov put the Tsar's mighty army in position for a mighty defense (and always looking for a counterattack opportunity).

Historically, both sides fought bravely and desperately, and both leaders they made big mistakes. Can you change history?

Bloody Monday gives both players a range of challenging decisions...every impulse of every turn. Wooden blocks and colored PVC stickers represent your troops and command structure, providing both easy accounting of unit strength and abilities, and a "fog of war" that forces players to take action. decisions without knowing more than a commander ever knows.

Historical situation

Bloody Monday begins after both sides have slipped and switched positions and dug in for two full days. The French have captured the Shevardino redoubt and are ready for their all-out assault, with the aim of crushing the Russian army and forcing peace with the Tsar. The Russians have strong natural defenses to their right and a series of ground moves that reinforce the center, but not their left. Both players have powerful forces, ranging from crack troops to depleted units, militia, and thousands of Cossacks. Command rivalries complicate both sides.

What happens here could change everything!

If Napoleon had crushed the Russians at Borodino, the Tsar might have been willing to deal. Had Kutuzov used his forces better, Napoleon might not have taken Moscow and been removed from power two years earlier.

The future of Europe hangs in the balance.
