In Food Chain Magnate, each player takes charge of a fast food restaurant franchise in the 1950s. Using a scheduling mechanic (using employees), players must generate demand in residential areas through marketing campaigns and, on the other hand, generate the products for said demand. Of course, when competing with other restaurants, the price must be adjusted to be the most attractive restaurant for customers. To serve future customers, it will be necessary to hire various employees who will work for our company.
At the end of each round, players must pay the wages of those workers with a cost (promoted). When paying these wages, a player may fire employees as he deems appropriate, either out of necessity (he does not have enough money to pay) or out of convenience. When an employee is fired or promoted, the corresponding card is returned to the supply, and he may be rehired later by a player.
The central axis of Food Chain Magnate is the different types of Cards in play, especially Employees and Milestones, which will allow you to develop a business strategy in order to be the brand that accumulates the most money.
We start with the Employees, probably the most important element of the game. During the game, players will have a phase in which they can hire one or more employees from a common supply.
These cards will be taken from a common supply. The number of workers in hand is unlimited, but their availability in the common supply is not, so if any type runs out, it will not be available to be hired. Let's analyze the different types of employees according to their category:
Cooks (dark green background). These employees are in charge of preparing Hamburgers and/or Pizzas to serve in the restaurants.
Beverage Suppliers (light green background). These employees provide drinks, some of them having to reach a distribution point on the board. Depending on the level, these delivery people will have a certain range of reach.
Marketing (light blue background). These employees are the ones that allow you to launch marketing campaigns on the board (explained below). Each level allows for an additional medium as well as a longer campaign duration.
Waitresses (purple background). Waitresses allow you to earn tips (additional income), as well as serving as a tiebreaker when deciding which restaurant customers go to.
Executives (black background). These employees allow you to expand your work capacity, enabling new spaces to place workers.
Human Resources (grey background). Here we find two types of workers. On the one hand, those that allow you to increase your hiring capacity and, on the other, those that allow you to promote already hired employees.
Managers (pink background). These employees act on the price per unit of the products that your restaurant offers.
Players will hire these workers to form a hand. Each turn, players will put these workers to work. Employees can be programmed in two rows. The first depends on our CEO Card, which defines a series of slots available at the beginning of the turn (in addition to enabling a fixed action for each round). If we place any management branch employees in these slots, we will enable new slots in the second row. The number of slots we do not occupy will be used to determine the order of shift selection at the beginning of each round. At the end of each round, players must pay the wages of those workers with a cost (promoted). When paying these wages, a player may fire employees as they see fit, either out of necessity (they do not have enough money to pay) or out of convenience. When an employee is fired or promoted, the corresponding card is returned to the supply, and they can be rehired later by a player.
On the other hand, we have Milestones, which are small achievements that players unlock if they are the first to meet a certain condition, such as being the first to advertise a type of product, the first to produce it, or the first to reach a certain amount of accumulated money. These milestones determine the players' strategy (especially at the beginning), and can be achieved by several players if all of them meet the condition in the same round (turn order does not affect it).
With our business structure at full capacity, it will be time to start promoting the different products in the residential areas, with a view to selling as many as possible and making the greatest possible profit.
