Fog over Carcassonne is the first cooperative game in the world of Carcassonne. The game is played according to the known rules as far as placing tiles and collecting points are concerned. But for the first time, players must work together to stem the spread of the mist and the spirits within, clear the haunted earth in the graveyards, and use the spooky haunted castles to their own advantage. If too many ghosts appeared or every three days pass before enough points are collected, the game is lost.

Fog over Carcassonne is a standalone game that can contain complete material in the form of different modules but also integrated into the huge Carcassonne world and thus used as an extension.
