Marguerite Grant couldn't have asked for a better day for that helicopter ride. Although she admitted the usefulness of these modern means of transportation, she did not like flying, much less in an experimental prototype; She preferred to have her feet on the ground and, like that day, she only got on an aircraft when it was strictly necessary. This was too important a matter to consider delegating, even to her trusted executive officer, who had offered to go in her place. Marguerite had been following this project for years and was convinced that its approval was near, especially after speaking with Herbert Hoover, the Secretary of Commerce, with whom she had had lunch the previous week.
When she sighted the Colorado River, she instructed the pilot to fly over it. From above she could enjoy an unparalleled spectacle; Fascinated by the power and colors of that river that flowed between the rocks, her mind projected the image of a cement giant that superimposed what her eyes transmitted to her. Where there was now nothing, she would rise a prey unequaled in the United States. It would also be possible to build roads that, using that giant as a bridge, would join the banks of the river from side to side. It was a vision that lasted only a moment, although it gave him the certainty of what the future of the Black Canyon would be.
