The people of heaven retired beyond the clouds and let the Frontier crumble and rot. The old machines are rusty and broken, and the collectors of the Gears World live from the scrap of the past and the waste from the floating cities of the people of heaven. The collectors' only hope for a better life is to build great heavenly machines and earn the favor of the Upper World in order to survive rival gangs of collectors. On the Border, surviving is an exceptional feat.
